Questions, answered clearly.
Practical details about using the tools, keeping files private, saving work, and knowing what happens after an upload.
01How do I compress an image without losing quality?
Open the image optimizer, drop your file in, and move the quality slider until the size and the sharpness balance the way you want. You compare the compressed result against the original side by side before downloading, so you can see exactly what the saving costs. It handles up to 20 images at once at 10 MB each, and exports PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF.
02How do I share a large file without an account?
Use FileDrops. Upload the file, then send it whichever way suits the situation: copy the link, read out the six-digit key so the recipient can type it in themselves, or let them scan the QR code straight from a phone. Files can run to 5 GB each with a 10 GB ceiling per drop, and you can pull everything down as one ZIP up to 512 MB.
03How do I convert a PNG to JPG?
The image converter turns any of PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF and GIF into any of the others — 20 combinations in all. Choose the pair you need, drop in files up to 24 MB each, and download the converted set or take everything as a ZIP. Animated GIFs keep their animation, and transparency is flattened only where the target format cannot hold it.
04Is it safe to use an online password generator?
The generating happens entirely on your device: every password comes from the browser's own cryptographic random source, so nothing is requested from us and the tool works with the network switched off. If you choose to keep one in the Vault, it is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it is stored, so what sits in the database is ciphertext — though saving is a server round trip by definition, and the tool never requires you to.
05How long do FileDrops links stay alive?
You choose at upload: one, five or seven days. When that window closes the link and the six-digit key both stop working automatically, and you can shorten the window or kill a drop early from the dashboard at any time.
06Are uploaded files private?
Most work happens in your browser — resizing, colour tools, code diffing and password generation never upload anything. Image compression and file conversion send the file to our server to be encoded in memory, returning the result without keeping a copy. FileDrops is the exception by design: it stores the file because the whole point is that someone else can collect it later, which is why those drops expire on their own and can be deleted early.
07Do I need to create an account?
No. Every tool on the site runs without signing in. An account is only for keeping something between visits: your saved passwords, saved code comparisons, colour palettes, and the FileDrops dashboard where you manage the drops you have running.
08Are the tools free, and are there limits?
All of them are free, with no daily cap and no paywall on the tools themselves. The limits that exist are technical rather than commercial — 10 MB per image in the optimizer, 24 MB in the converter, 5 GB per file in FileDrops — and they are stated on each tool before you upload anything.
09Can I use these tools on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Every tool is built to work on a touch screen, and FileDrops is designed around it: the QR code exists so a phone can open a shared file by scanning rather than typing. Nothing requires a desktop browser.
10What should I use first?
If you are preparing a website, start with the image optimizer and then the resizer. For design work, Palette Studio builds and exports palettes while ColorLens names any colour from a code, a picker or a screenshot. FileDrops handles getting the finished files to somebody else, and the password generator covers the account you are about to create.
11Which image formats can I optimize or convert?
The image tools support common web formats, including PNG, JPG, JPEG, WebP, and AVIF where the selected workflow supports it. Each tool page lists its exact inputs and outputs.
12How long do FileDrops links stay active?
You can choose a one, five, or seven day expiry. A drop also stops after its download allowance is reached, and receive keys are temporary and single-use.
13Where are saved palettes and passwords stored?
Saved palettes and password-vault items are tied to your signed-in account. Password values are encrypted before storage and revealed only through the authenticated vault flow.
14Can I use the tools for commercial work?
Yes. You can use generated and processed output in personal or commercial projects. You remain responsible for having permission to use the files and content you provide.
15What should I do if a tool fails?
Try again with a smaller file or a current browser. If the problem continues, send the tool name, file type, and visible error through the contact page so it can be reproduced.
